You review your written plan and quote, ask anything else, and take at least seven days to decide.

Surgery day
Your operation takes place under general anaesthetic in an accredited hospital, followed by one to three nights of care.

Rest, short walks and a compression garment. Our nurse checks your wounds within the first fortnight.

Types of tummy tuck
No two abdomens are the same. Dr Khan recommends the approach that treats your concern with the shortest scar possible.
Full abdominoplasty
The most common tummy tuck. It treats the whole abdomen above and below the navel, repairs the muscle wall and removes loose skin through a low hip-to-hip scar. Your belly button is kept and repositioned.
Best for
Skin laxity and muscle separation after pregnancy or weight loss
Abdominoplasty is a well-established operation when performed by a Specialist Plastic Surgeon in an accredited hospital. Like all surgery it carries risks, which Dr Khan explains in detail. Careful assessment, stopping smoking and following your aftercare plan all lower your risk.
How painful is recovery?
Most people describe tightness and soreness rather than sharp pain, especially after muscle repair. It is strongest in the first few days and is controlled with prescribed medication. Walking slightly bent forward for the first week or so is normal.
How long will I need off work?
Most patients return to desk work after 2 to 3 weeks. Jobs involving lifting or physical effort usually need 6 weeks. Driving is generally possible once you can brake suddenly without discomfort, often around 2 to 3 weeks.
Will I have a scar?
Yes. Every tummy tuck leaves a scar, placed low so it can be hidden by most underwear and swimwear. It is pink at first and gradually softens and fades over 12 to 18 months. Scar care advice is part of your aftercare.
Does a tummy tuck remove fat?
Yes. Fat is removed along with the excess skin, and liposuction is often added to refine the waist and flanks. A tummy tuck is not a weight loss operation, though. It works best when you are already close to your goal weight.
Can I have children after a tummy tuck?
You can, but pregnancy will stretch the skin and muscles again and may undo much of the result. Most women are advised to wait until they have finished having children.
Is a tummy tuck covered by Medicare or private health?
A Medicare item number may apply when there is a documented medical need, for example significant muscle separation after pregnancy with symptoms, or excess skin after major weight loss causing recurrent rashes. If an item number applies, your private health fund may contribute to hospital costs. We will check your eligibility at consultation.
How long do the results last?
The muscle repair and skin removal are long lasting. Your result is best protected by keeping a stable weight and healthy lifestyle. Ageing, pregnancy and weight changes can still affect your shape over time.
